Wattlebird Learning

Free learning games for curious kids

Learning that earns the adventure

Every round of practice earns a reward: a cast in Legend Waters, a fossil dig in Deep Time Dig, or another gold fact in Gold Block Maths. The first games practise maths: times tables, division, adding and taking away, at each child’s own level.

The games

Pick a game and start playing

Each game has its own players and keeps its own progress. Nothing to download: they all run in the web browser.

Gold Block Maths

  • Primary school
  • Fact trainer

It times every answer, finds the facts that are still slow and practises them until they turn gold. Collect coins, pets and badges along the way.

Practises: times tables to 12 × 12, division, adding and taking away.

Legend Waters

  • Ages 9 to 12
  • Fishing

Every round of maths earns a cast. Fish 13 waters across Australia and the world, from the Murray to the open ocean, and get to know 55 real species. Land each fish with a couple of fish questions and win medals from made-up mentors.

Practises: times tables, division, adding and taking away, and two-digit sums.

Play Legend Waters

Deep Time Dig

  • Ages 9 to 12
  • Palaeontology

Every round of maths earns a fossil dig at 13 sites from the Cambrian to the Ice Age. Choose the right rock layer, brush the bones out, prepare them in the lab and build a museum of 66 prehistoric animals.

Practises: times tables, division, adding and taking away, and two-digit sums.

How the practice works

Little and often, until every fact turns gold

All the games practise the same way. They work out what each child already knows and spend the time on what they don’t.

  1. Ten quick questions

Each round is ten quick questions at your child’s level. In the maths games, that means times tables, division, adding and taking away, or bigger two-digit sums.

  2. Slow ones come back

The games time every answer. A missed question comes back a few questions later, and the weakest areas get extra practice.

  3. Facts turn gold

Each fact goes from bronze to silver to gold as it gets quick and right, so children can watch their progress grow.

For parents and teachers

Simple, private and safe

  • No accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. Children don’t need an email address. Each one simply makes a player on your device.
  • Progress stays on your device. It’s saved in this browser and never sent anywhere. Each game’s Grown-ups page can download a backup, which also moves progress to another device.
  • On an iPad or iPhone, add a game to the Home Screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen). It opens like an app, and Safari keeps its saved progress safe.
  • Real facts. The fish and fossil facts come from museums, fisheries agencies and scientific sources, and each fact file lists them. The mentors in the games are made-up characters.
  • See how they’re going. Each game’s Grown-ups page shows which times tables are known, how fast the answers are and what to practise next.
